Beautiful Clearlake in California

Beautiful Clearlake in California
Pacific Ocean/Mendocino Feb 2016
Update: March 6th, 2016.
After a very very long year of learning to live a new life with my most recent handicap. I am getting movement in my arm!! :) It started the end of August and has been progressing, slowly. My issues with paranioia and depression are also getting better. I am confident that things will continue to progress. However, loosing a whole YEAR of my life is devastating to say the least. However, keeping a positive attitude for the most part has been a huge challenge, but I do it. I am grateful to all my family and friends that have been so encouraging and helpful. Thank you..

Ft Bragg, CA with Friends

201

We met Jim and Shirley at the junction of hwy 29/hwy 20 and we followed them over to Ft Bragg to the Noyo Harbor to have lunch at Silvers at the Wharf. Ev and I shared a to die for crab melt/bowl of clam chowder! Jim had some enchilada’s and Shirley had? oops forgot.. Lovely day and such great company!! Sun was out and it was nice and warm with no wind! Ocean was flat calm.. really lovely day..

After lunch we headed up to Westport, just north.. We stayed the night just above the ocean on some cliffs.. Gorgeous views and sunset..We sat out by the fire for till it was dark, then retired early.

Up and ready to for travel the next morning.. We caravanned back down to Cleone. We had thought we might stay at MacKerricher Park, fees are $25 (no hook ups) a night, while the private campground next door at the Cleone Grocery campground and full hook up fee was $31 a night..(It just kills me that the “state campgrounds’ can’t keep their doors up with their high fees and the private people with hook ups can with cheap fees. Guess the state should go private!)
We got all set up at our new humble site.

We thought we all needed a cocktail, a “margarita” and some “Wrap Turkey Avocado Cranberry Mustard” for lunch. After lunch we decided we should go shopping at the local thrift stores.. Of course we found a couple of treasures to take home with us. After a couple of hours of shopping, we were getting mighty thirsty..

Found this nice little bar downtown “Tip Top Lounge”. Lots of great atmosphere.. Biker bar.. Nice scenery… quite entertaining actually. It was ‘happy hour”..

152 We decided we should go to the Cliff House Restaurant for our second happy hour cocktail and dinner. Fabulous dinner with breath taking views of the Noyo Harbor! We just made it to get the “early bird special dinner”, 2 entrĂ©e’s and a bottle of wine for $30!!! Wonderful dinner, great atmosphere! However the best was the company!!

Such a fun fun day! Jim & Shirley you two are so much fun!!
We are going to miss you when you leave tomorrow!! (leaving on Wednesday to go home).
When we got up on Wednesdays, we all thought it would be a great idea to go for breakfast at Eggheads, wonderful crab omelets! Didn’t remember them being so pricey.. oh well..

Wednesday was another wonderful day! Warm sunshine, calm seas, what more could be ask for?? I think the day just got better as it went on.
Once we saw Jim & Shirley off, we packed up the kayaks and headed for MacKerricher Park to the ocean. We launched the kayaks in the bay and started paddling around. Soon we had some very cute entertainment, the seals! They were so cute and playful and one really brave one! He was swimming under us next to us, popping up here and there.. so cute.. Eventually he followed us to shore!! We didn’t stay out too long, I was a bit apprehensive being in the “ocean”.. not feeling real safe.. so we decided we go down the Noyo River and kayak!!

We arrived at our new destination about 2pm.. It took us a while to find this place to launch the kayaks. It was way  up the river about a mile or so from the harbor. Turned out to be a great place!
We saw so many boats, coming and going.. some coming up the river some going down. the ocean was flat calm and the fishing was terrific! Salmon and Albacore Tuna!!
The river water was calm and easy paddling. We made sure to stay out of the “shipping lane”.. we paddled about 2 and 1/2 miles round trip.. took us about 2 hours.. We were paddling against the tide on the way down and with the tide on the way back.. wheweeeeeeeeeee.. what a great day!!
We stopped at Safeway on the way back to camp to pick up a couple of steaks for dinner.. we were going to get some nice fresh fish, but the '”fresh fish” price from the fisherman was soooo expensive.. so we had steak instead..
By the time we got back to camp some fisherman had arrived over at the cleaning station (which was close to our camp) and they were generous and gave us some of their tuna filets to bring home!! Smile I guess we got about 3 or 4 pounds!! I’ll can it when I bring it home!!

We were lazy Thursday morning, slept in some, watched a movie, ate breakfast and then we finally left for home about 12:30pm.. Its about a 2 hour plus drive home.. only about 80 miles but lots of winding road....
