Beautiful Clearlake in California
Pacific Ocean/Mendocino Feb 2016
After a very very long year of learning to live a new life with my most recent handicap. I am getting movement in my arm!! :) It started the end of August and has been progressing, slowly. My issues with paranioia and depression are also getting better. I am confident that things will continue to progress. However, loosing a whole YEAR of my life is devastating to say the least. However, keeping a positive attitude for the most part has been a huge challenge, but I do it. I am grateful to all my family and friends that have been so encouraging and helpful. Thank you..

Weekend in the Redwoods!
What a week it has been! Now that everyone left this morning we are getting the trailer packed and ready to leave by 9am on Thursday morning! We will meet Phil & Toni in Redwood Valley and caravan up to Eureka for 4 fun filled days and nights!!
About a month or so ago I called the “Elks” lodge in Eureka to find out about tickets for their annual “Weekend in the Redwoods” feast! Starts on Friday night with a cook your own steak. Saturday night all you an eat Crab!! uumm.. and to wrap up an lovely weekend a delightful all you can eat Brunch with free Bloody Mary's ,mimosa's and fizzes.. All for the great price of $70 per person for the whole weekend feast!
We meet up with Phil & Toni just at the bottom of the hill from Willits. They were coming from Petaluma so it worked out fabulous!
We arrived at the Moose in Eureka about 2pm that Thursday afternoon. Lee & Laura came up earlier in the week, so they were trying to save spots for all of us in the campground there. The Moose doesn’t take reservations, first come first serve. We got lucky and were able to park, 1, 2 , 3… There were still others that would be coming in that day and the next day Friday as well. Don & Gail got there late afternoon on Thursday after having a few problems, but they made it safely..!! Rob & Gayle didn’t get in till Friday afternoon…Met up with Greta and Sam on Friday..Friday Morning Phil/Toni and us drove over to the “Cookhouse” in Samoa for breakfast!
So much history! After breakfast at the “CookHouse” we drove down to the marina and walked around and took some photos..did a few thrift stores and garage sale here and there and then back to camp with all of our treasures…
Friday afternoon we did horderves and cocktails at the Swesey/Brooks camp about 4-5 and then went over to the
Steak feed on Friday night at the Elks was so wonderful! They cut inch and half thick steaks, cook your own. Salad bar, veggies and baked potatoes with garlic bread.. Great dinner.. class all the way! The lodge is beautiful!! Or poor little moose lodge doesn’t compare!! However the Elks lodge in Eureka has a membership of over 1500 people. Makes a lot of difference with there is a big membership! Gorgeous lodge! And it was so nice everything was very well organized..
After dinner there was a great band playing for those who wanted to dance.. There were about 750 people at the Steak Feed that evening.. Nice turnout!
We saw so many people we knew from Clearlake, Petaluma, etc.. Nice to see everyone..
We didn’t really get to stay long.. we danced a few dances and went back to camp..
Saturday morning Phil & Ev set out on a mission to try and find a portable dish so we could watch the play off game with the 49ers and Seahawks for Sunday afternoon...
In the meantime I was getting ready for the day. When the guys got back from their search we all piled in the truck to try and find a dish again. WE hit a few more thrift stores and finally got lucky and found one. Then decided had time to go to McKinnleyville Moose!!
They were all so nice and it is always great to visit other lodges!! You guys were so awesome!! Thanks for having us!! ![]()
Hurried back to camp so we could host another “Happy Hour” cocktail/horderves party at the Swesey/Brook camp before heading over to the Elks for the all you can eat crab!!
Thankfully when the guys had gone out shopping for a “dish” they stopped in at the Elks and got us a table reserved for 18 people..
The Crab feed was fabulous! And again it was so well organized.. I would say there were only about 1/2 the people at the crab feed that was at the Steak Feed.. Another great evening of fun and dancing.. Not a late night.. Got back to camp about 10..
We all were up bright and early so we could go and have our final “feast” at the Elks, brunch.. Buffet Brunch with FREE Bloody Mary’s, Mimosa's and Fizzes.. The crowd had dwindled down from what was there the last few evenings.. But then breakfast started at 8am and went to 11am.. Another great meal! Great Food, Great Friends, Great Weekend! We lost a few that had to go home on Sunday. We planned on staying through till Monday.. Gayle & Rob, Don & Gail and Lee & Laura pulled out before noon on Sunday.. Everyone arrived home safe.. ![]()
We stayed on that afternoon to watch the ball games. So before the “big game” started.. Phil worked very hard on trying to get that satellite dish to work.. no luck.. so we just figured we could just walk over to the Moose lodge an watch the game.. In the meantime we decided to take a ride over to the beach (Samoa) so that the dogs could run for awhile.. The weather has been beautiful and sunny all weekend! A bit chilly but no rain.. ![]()
We took horderves over to the moose so we could munch while we watched. We shared with some of the members..
Was pretty full from al the junk all day.. I stll fixed some dinner.. had left over crab from the night before so I made a delicious crab salad. Barb-q’ed some ribs and chicken..
It was an early night..
Monday we left the Moose campground about 11 got home about 4.. Nice weekend.. will do it again next year!! ![]()

Partylite with Bette & John
Had such fun time with Bette & John.. My friend Bette is a partylite consultant. When they were here visiting in November I told Bette I would have a party in January.. Home party.
Bette & John arrived on Monday afternoon. I cooked a some meatloaf, mashed potatoes/gravy and served a green salad.. Invited Charles up for dinner as well. Really a nice evening.
Tuesday morning I was up and on the run.. I made breakfast, I did the breakfast bake casserole dish and made some potato puffs with the left over mashed potatoes! uumm good..
Tuesday was my scheduled party at 1pm.. I had decided to do a luncheon. I made up some turkey rollups and a green salad with apples, green onions, avocados and some glazed walnuts with Raspberry dressing.. umm soo good..I baked a lovely homemade lemon meringue pie…
Bette did an awesome job displaying all the cute things she had. And I do believe everyone had a fun time.. ![]()
By the time all had left, I just ran out of gas.. pooped..
For dinner on Tuesday night, we had left over rollups/potato puff and lemon meringue pie....

Tribute to Helen Cavanagh
Helen Cavanagh passed in the we hours December 24th, 2014.
She was 94 years old.
Helen lived a long happy life. Up until the past couple of years she was in terrific health. 2 years ago she fell and broke her hip. Her health just declined after that.
The Service was held at the Elim Lutheran Church in Petaluma.
Her celebration of life continued at Mr Magoo’s also in
Petaluma. Even though her most of her friends have passed, there were nearly 100 people in attendance for the Celebration of Life. People came from all over to pay their respects. Helen was a wonderful lady..

Christmas Day 12/25/2013
We switched it up a bit this year. Normally Ev and I have Christmas Day here at our home. However this year due to extenuating circumstances with Chris’ work schedule we had our Christmas Celebration at Chris & Lindsy’s house.
Everything was wonderful! We got up Christmas morning and were able to see how excited Colin was that Santa Claus had come! We enjoyed watching him open every gift! You could just feel the joy and excitement he felt.. Wonderful…
Colin opened a couple of presents before his “Grammy & Pa” got there.. He was very patient.. surprise surprise!! ![]()
Soon after their arrival Colin was in full swing opening gifts! I do believe that was the best part of the day!
Chris & Lindsy fixed up some quiches, mimosa's for breakfast.. umm we were good..After Colin was done opening his gifts, all the adults did their gift exchange.. Thanks everyone! You all put so much into giving wonderful gifts!
Ev and I went over to my sister Kim’s about noon. Michelle was home from Hawaii for a week. It was nice to see her.. We got a few family shots with the kids.. I think this was the first time in years that I had been with my sister on Christmas.. It was nice.. We stayed a couple of hours and then back over to Lindsy to help get dinner going..
Lindsy had the table all decorated by the time we got back. I began getting the ham ready to go in. Mixed up the scalloped potatoes going as well as some candied yams.. uumm delicious.. Janet made some dessert as well at green bean casserole, Carrie made up some corn & zucchini dish.. Mike & Julia brought the crab salad.. We were good to go.. Lots of yummy food! We had 13 for dinner.. Lindsy, Chris, Colin, Ev & I, Mike, Julia, Bob, Janet, Carrie, Jason, Jeff and Cesar..
It was a GREAT CHRISTMAS! Thank you everyone for making this Christmas so special!! Happy New Year.. May you all have a Happy & Healthy 2014!!
Carrie & Jason are expecting their first baby April 15th 2014!
Christmas Eve with Phil & Toni
We finally arrived at Lindsy’s about 3pm I think? Hadn’t seen her in awhile. I had only seen her once since she had her tonsils out. And that day she wasn’t feeling too good. It was a 10 days post op.. She looked great! Colin grows like a weed! He is getting so grown up!!
Lindsy/Chris/Colin were headed over to Lindsy’s Dad for their annual Christmas Eve dinner with Mike’s side of the family..
About 5pm we headed over to spend a nice quite evening with Phil & Toni.. They have such a neat place.. Love it there!
I helped Toni wrap up some last minute packages.. She was baking cookies. Ev & Phil were sitting at the “Meacham Road” bar..of course there is a story, but won’t tell it now..We enjoyed some pizza and called it an early evening..
When we arrived back at Lindsy’s, Janet & Bob and Carrie & Jason were there.. We didn’t visit long and headed to bed..
Early this morning my sister Kim called to let us know that John’s Mom, Helen Cavanagh had passed away peacefully early that morning. Helen was 94 years old. She was a wonderfully gracious lady.. We will miss her.. R.I.P.

Pre-Christmas Celebration at the Swesey’s
As I had said in an earlier post we kidnapped our dear friend Donnie from his sister Gayle. We got him for a couple of days! Donnie arrived on Saturday early afternoon. Of course I was still primping when he arrived.. dang hate that when that happens.. oh well.. Had Donnie come sit on the side of the bathtub in our bath while I continued to put make up on. ![]()
While he was sitting there, he said “did you know your cupboard door” needs adjustment? and of course I answered yes I know.. So went to the kitchen and got him a screw driver so he could keep busy while finished up the important stuff.. and the plus is that my cupboard door is now straight.. I should have pointed out the others that needed some adjustment too..
But wanted to visit and catch up… This was the first time Donnie had been to our home, so I had to show him the view and of course all the Christmas decorations..
And then of course there were the two parties later in the day..
Sunday, we had planned to have a “friends/family” Christmas dinner. Our special guest were, Donnie, Cheri & Ali and Charles.
We (Donnie & Us) had a nice late breakfast and then Ev and Donnie took a ride over to the vacation house, while I stayed home to get ready for Cheri & Ali (Ev’s nieces, well mine too
)to arrive and to get dinner started.
Ali is so grown up! I was so surprised to see how tall she was and so grown up looking. Cheri looked wonderful as always.
Both Cheri & Ali were a help to me to get dinner going. Dinner would be simple really. We got this fabulous ham from Costco (Kirkland Ham), Delicious and not salty at all!
Made some scalloped potatoes, bacon wrapped asparagus, applesauce and some bread/butter. Dinner was nice.. Loved having them all at our table to share this special time.
After dinner we sat around and did some sharing of stories and watched some TV.. soon Charles was on his way, he had to work the next morning. It was early evening and we said our good nights..![]()
As soon as everyone was up on Monday morning I decided to make this breakfast called a “Breakfast Bake”..uumm so good.. will post the recipe later..
Got every feed and Donnie was packing up so he could leave and head down to the bay area to visit some friends for a couple of days.
After Donnie left we did a little gift exchange with Cheri & Ali..
Cheri, Ali and Ev & I had decided we would all go and see the movie “Saving Mr. Banks” over in Lakeport. As soon as we were all ready to go we all jumped in the car to head over there. Cheri had to go to the bank.. we also stopped at Rene’s to have a late lunch before going to the movie.. We stopped a couple little shops before actually getting to the theatre..
Great movie.. we all cried.. ![]()
When we got home we spent the evening relaxing and watching a little tv before going to bed..
Tuesday would be a busy day.. that is Christmas Eve..

Martin Christmas Party
Here we go party #2!! Same day.. ![]()
We arrived a bit late to the Ron & Brenda’s Christmas party.. all due to that dang tree falling earlier in the day.. ummm?
We came through the door and everyone was so joyful and greeted us with warm wishes of Merry Christmas and “your late”! oppps.. We wasted no time in joining in the festivities.. that would be singing/dancing/eating (not much food left when we arrived/that is what we get for being LATE!) Brenda is an awesome chef!! OMG she cooks for 3 days prior to the party and her horderves are to die for!! and cookies/candies/etc..
Brenda was so sweet when we were going to leave she handed me a plate of goodies!! uumm yummy!
The party was in full swing when we arrived. So many familiar faces! Every dressed is festive Christmas attire! Some just glamorous, some in funny attire! It is great to see everyone get into the Christmas Spirit!! God knows it is my favorite time of the year!!Lots of smiles, warm embraces that is what it is all about!
Merry Christmas to all of you! Thank you for everything! We wish you a Happy & Healthy New Year!!!!!!!!!!
