What a week it has been! Now that everyone left this morning we are getting the trailer packed and ready to leave by 9am on Thursday morning! We will meet Phil & Toni in Redwood Valley and caravan up to Eureka for 4 fun filled days and nights!!
About a month or so ago I called the “Elks” lodge in Eureka to find out about tickets for their annual “Weekend in the Redwoods” feast! Starts on Friday night with a cook your own steak. Saturday night all you an eat Crab!! uumm.. and to wrap up an lovely weekend a delightful all you can eat Brunch with free Bloody Mary's ,mimosa's and fizzes.. All for the great price of $70 per person for the whole weekend feast!
We meet up with Phil & Toni just at the bottom of the hill from Willits. They were coming from Petaluma so it worked out fabulous!
We arrived at the Moose in Eureka about 2pm that Thursday afternoon. Lee & Laura came up earlier in the week, so they were trying to save spots for all of us in the campground there. The Moose doesn’t take reservations, first come first serve. We got lucky and were able to park, 1, 2 , 3… There were still others that would be coming in that day and the next day Friday as well. Don & Gail got there late afternoon on Thursday after having a few problems, but they made it safely..!! Rob & Gayle didn’t get in till Friday afternoon…Met up with Greta and Sam on Friday..Friday Morning Phil/Toni and us drove over to the “Cookhouse” in Samoa for breakfast!
So much history! After breakfast at the “CookHouse” we drove down to the marina and walked around and took some photos..did a few thrift stores and garage sale here and there and then back to camp with all of our treasures…
Friday afternoon we did horderves and cocktails at the Swesey/Brooks camp about 4-5 and then went over to the
Steak feed on Friday night at the Elks was so wonderful! They cut inch and half thick steaks, cook your own. Salad bar, veggies and baked potatoes with garlic bread.. Great dinner.. class all the way! The lodge is beautiful!! Or poor little moose lodge doesn’t compare!! However the Elks lodge in Eureka has a membership of over 1500 people. Makes a lot of difference with there is a big membership! Gorgeous lodge! And it was so nice everything was very well organized..
After dinner there was a great band playing for those who wanted to dance.. There were about 750 people at the Steak Feed that evening.. Nice turnout!
We saw so many people we knew from Clearlake, Petaluma, etc.. Nice to see everyone..
We didn’t really get to stay long.. we danced a few dances and went back to camp..
Saturday morning Phil & Ev set out on a mission to try and find a portable dish so we could watch the play off game with the 49ers and Seahawks for Sunday afternoon...
In the meantime I was getting ready for the day. When the guys got back from their search we all piled in the truck to try and find a dish again. WE hit a few more thrift stores and finally got lucky and found one. Then decided had time to go to McKinnleyville Moose!! They were all so nice and it is always great to visit other lodges!! You guys were so awesome!! Thanks for having us!!
Hurried back to camp so we could host another “Happy Hour” cocktail/horderves party at the Swesey/Brook camp before heading over to the Elks for the all you can eat crab!!
Thankfully when the guys had gone out shopping for a “dish” they stopped in at the Elks and got us a table reserved for 18 people..
The Crab feed was fabulous! And again it was so well organized.. I would say there were only about 1/2 the people at the crab feed that was at the Steak Feed.. Another great evening of fun and dancing.. Not a late night.. Got back to camp about 10..
We all were up bright and early so we could go and have our final “feast” at the Elks, brunch.. Buffet Brunch with FREE Bloody Mary’s, Mimosa's and Fizzes.. The crowd had dwindled down from what was there the last few evenings.. But then breakfast started at 8am and went to 11am.. Another great meal! Great Food, Great Friends, Great Weekend! We lost a few that had to go home on Sunday. We planned on staying through till Monday.. Gayle & Rob, Don & Gail and Lee & Laura pulled out before noon on Sunday.. Everyone arrived home safe..
We stayed on that afternoon to watch the ball games. So before the “big game” started.. Phil worked very hard on trying to get that satellite dish to work.. no luck.. so we just figured we could just walk over to the Moose lodge an watch the game.. In the meantime we decided to take a ride over to the beach (Samoa) so that the dogs could run for awhile.. The weather has been beautiful and sunny all weekend! A bit chilly but no rain..
We took horderves over to the moose so we could munch while we watched. We shared with some of the members..
Was pretty full from al the junk all day.. I stll fixed some dinner.. had left over crab from the night before so I made a delicious crab salad. Barb-q’ed some ribs and chicken..
It was an early night..
Monday we left the Moose campground about 11 got home about 4.. Nice weekend.. will do it again next year!!
